Vans Hi-Standard Recap
In a land with no inverts and no spins over 720, the rider with style is king. The Vans Hi-Standard brought the boot to Copper's Central Park on March 4th for an incredibly fun contest with a decidedly anti-contest vibe. This fun, inclusive grassroots contest brought competitors ranging in ages from seven to 30+, who then proceeded to lay down some of the best riding the Hi-Standard series had seen this year.

The crew from Vans kept the cash flowing throughout the day, distributing $2000 in $5-$10 increments for each trick cleanly landed. The Jam format portion of the event provided instant gratification for competitors and kept pushing the riders to stomp as many tricks as possible. At the end of the day it was Chase Blakely who rose above the field to claim the coveted MVP title and a free trip to the Vans Hi-Standard Series final in California.

Following the Jam segment, the Van Doren Best Trick contest kicked off with $500 on the line for whoever could stomp the most mind-melting manuever. Will Healy took down the 15 and under division with a BS 270 sameway 270 out on the down-flat-down rail and walked away with $200. In the 16+ division, Jake Coleman claimed victory with a FS 270 Switch Up Revert on the down-flat-down and walked away with $300 and a massive smile on his face.

The Vans Hi-Standard was handing out stoke in many forms, not only providing an awesome experience for competitors but also keeping resort guests and spectators engaged with free waffles (reminiscent of the famous Vans waffle soles) and setting up a free House of Vans Art Workshop where guests could design their own custom pair of Vans Classic Slip-Ons with the help of local artist Dustin Fleming. Fleming even customized his own giant Vans Sk8-Hi which was raffled off for one lucky person to take home a truly unique piece of art. The fun and relaxed vibes at the Vans Hi-Standard were enjoyed by all and we can't wait for next year's event!
